Since last week's post, desire has been on my mind. From where does the desire to achieve a grand goal come? How do we fuel it? And once the fire's burning, then what?
Last night I read a post about desire by Ram Dass. He noted that when we have a burning desire, our minds tend to welcome the stimuli around us that will help us fulfill our intention. When we're hungry, we're especially attuned to noticing food. When our hearts needs healing, we register every love song.
When you have a focused desire, some say the "universe steps up to help." While I've found this to be a hope-giving concept, my scientific side has questioned its validity. But what if it's not the universe stepping up; rather it's you opening to what has been there all along?
We have so many stimuli blasting us at every moment. We can only invite a small portion of those stimuli into our consciousness. When we make a declaration and then fuel the desire to achieve it, we refocus our senses and open to a new way of seeing the world. When the desire is strong, we put filters on our interactions, searching for new ways to fulfill our deepest hunger.
So today I ask you, what is your burning desire? Is it a raging fire or a smoldering ember? What tools do you use to stoke it? Is your intention strong enough to awaken you to the possibilities that exist all around you? If not, try these tips:
- Name a specific and measurable result you want to achieve.
- State your intention aloud every morning when you wake up and every night before you go to bed.
- In the morning, write down two or three actions you will take that day to achieve your burning desire.
- In the evening, write down all of the actions you took to further your goal.
Notice numbers three and four focus on the actions that will help you achieve your goals. Yes, we need to do internal work to fuel our fire, but the real oxygen comes when you're taking bold actions that reshape your life.
Nancy's Hitting the Road!
I'm thrilled to participate in the National Military Spouse Network's 2017 Road Show! This month, I'll speak on Living Courageously with military spouses in San Antonio, Texas and Tacoma, Washington. I'll share insights about what holds us back from living our most courageous lives and offer my Courage FormulaTM as a tool to help participants step into their most authentic, powerful selves.
Also this month, I'll be traveling to Wisconsin to facilitate a conversation with the Middleton Public Library. This fun-filled identity-building team day will strengthen the organizational storyline while providing a framework for how the library can best serve its community.
Need a speaker or facilitator? Shoot me a note. I love working with individuals and teams to help them find their essence and give it voice.
